Exact-match by MPN and pack size, explained
Many “savings” tools blur similar items. SaveSame only shows a historical price difference when three fields match:
- Manufacturer (brand owner of the item)
- MPN (manufacturer part number)
- Pack size (same unit count / packaging)
Why pack size matters
A box of 100 and a box of 200 can share a product family and still be different commercial units. Comparing their unit prices without matching pack can invent a false “deal.” Exact pack matching avoids that class of error.
What “verified” vs “no match” means
- Verified match — manufacturer + MPN + pack lined up with a labeled alternate source and a stored price-check timestamp.
- No match — not enough identity to claim a like-for-like alternate. That is expected for private-label items, custom kits, or lines missing an MPN.
Reproducibility rule
Every savings figure for a real office must come from a stored match row (paid price, alternate price, source label, and price_checked_at). Public sample demos are synthetic and labeled as sample data — not a customer result.
Historical differences are not a guarantee of future savings, availability, or that your next PO will clear at the alternate price.
